Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a systems administration intern to join the HPC and AI Data Center Administration team. The internship operates in a hybrid setup, with an average of 2 days per week onsite at an HPE office, specifically in Chippewa Falls, WI for the duration of the program.

You will help identify gaps in monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning, build repeatable reports, document hardening expectations, and develop a lab-wide visibility baseline and tools the team

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
• Comfortable operating on Linux command line without a GUI.
• Able to navigate a filesystem, edit config files, inspect services and logs, manage users/permissions, and troubleshoot without a GUI.
• Hands-on Linux exposure via coursework, home lab, internship, or Linux-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inventory validation for HPC and AI lab systems.
• Review monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning coverage across a heterogeneous system fleet.
• Identify gaps in agent deployment, log forwarding, scan inclusion, and system ownership records.
• Build scripts, reports, or dashboards that summarize security visibility.
• Document hardening expectations and practical checklists for lab systems.
• Collaborate with system admins to validate findings and prioritize follow-up work.
• Present project results and recommendations at internship end.
