Axios is seeking a Houston-focused reporter to own the city’s biggest conversations and craft newsletters that become the talk of the town. You’ll co-author a daily Axios newsletter, break news, and develop sources, all while embracing AI-driven reporting to enhance productivity and storytelling.

The role requires curiosity, a fast-paced newsroom instinct, and a knack for writing in Axios’ Smart Brevity voice. Remote-optional with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience covering Houston.
• Excellent sources and the desire to create new ones.
• Ability to break news and create conceptual scoops.
• Omnivorous curiosity about your hometown.
• Ideas, ideas, ideas.
• Comfort flexing some voice and personality in your writing.
• Proven experience working in a fast-paced news environment and on deadline.
• Desire to be indispensable to local readers and to Axios Local.

Responsibilities

• Co-authoring a daily Axios newsletter full of insights and scoops that matter most to Houston residents.
• Interest in covering many aspects of life in the city.
• Experimenting with and leveraging AI for reporting and newsletter production.
• Writing conversationally, in Axios’ Smart Brevity style.
• Helping to build Axios Local and shaping how our product evolves.
