Job summary

Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego is seeking a Housing Specialist I/II to help residents maintain stable housing, strengthen tenancy skills, and connect with resources that support long-term success.

You will build trusting relationships, be organized and solutions‑oriented, and apply Housing First, trauma‑informed, and resident‑centered practices while collaborating with landlords and service providers to promote successful tenancies.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Social Services, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Housing Specialist I: At least one year.
  • Housing Specialist II: At least three years, with demonstrated ability to independently manage housing stabilization responsibilities and address complex tenancy concerns.
  • Builds trusting, professional relationships with residents, landlords, property managers, service providers, and community partners.
  • Communicates clearly, respectfully, and effectively, including in challenging or sensitive situations.
  • Exercises sound judgment and uses effective problem-solving to address housing-related concerns.
  • Demonstrates strong organization, time management, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Balances competing priorities while remaining responsive to resident and program needs.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Housing First, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and resident-centered practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide housing stabilization and tenancy support to residents in Permanent Supportive Housing.
  • Maintain regular contact with residents and address housing-related concerns.
  • Help residents understand lease requirements, tenant responsibilities, and program expectations.
  • Connect residents with healthcare, behavioral health, benefits, and community resources.
  • Partner with landlords and property managers to support successful tenancies and address concerns.
  • Conduct housing visits and other community-based activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, housing records, and required documentation.

Housing Specialist I/II

This is one job opening. The selected candidate will be hired as either Housing Specialist I or Housing Specialist II based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated competencies.

As a Housing Specialist, you build trusting relationships with residents and help them navigate challenges to maintain stable housing. You are organized, adaptable, and solutions-oriented, with strong judgment and follow-through.

You bring a Housing First, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and resident-centered approach to your work and demonstrate Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Empowerment, and Dignity in your interactions with residents and partners.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provide housing stabilization and tenancy support to residents in Permanent Supportive Housing.
  • Maintain regular contact with residents and address housing-related concerns.
  • Help residents understand lease requirements, tenant responsibilities, and program expectations.
  • Connect residents with healthcare, behavioral health, benefits, and community resources.
  • Partner with landlords and property managers to support successful tenancies and address concerns.
  • Conduct housing visits and other community-based activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, housing records, and required documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to coordinate services and support residents.

The Housing Specialist II performs these responsibilities with greater independence and experience, including managing more complex tenancy concerns, exercising independent judgment, and contributing to program quality and housing retention efforts.

  • Associate’s degree in Social Services , Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in housing services, housing stabilization, social services, case management, homeless services, Permanent Supportive Housing, or a related field:
  • Housing Specialist I : At least one year.
  • Housing Specialist II: At least three years, with demonstrated ability to independently manage housing stabilization responsibilities and address complex tenancy concerns.
  • Builds trusting, professional relationships with residents, landlords, property managers, service providers, and community partners.
  • Communicates clearly, respectfully, and effectively, including in challenging or sensitive situations.
  • Exercises sound judgment and uses effective problem-solving to address housing-related concerns.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday. Work takes place in office, residential, and community settings, with regular travel required for housing visits, resident support, and engagement with housing providers. Occasional schedule adjustments may be needed based on resident and program needs.

The anticipated starting pay ranges for the role are:

Housing Specialist I: $20.00 to $23.30 per hour

Housing Specialist II: $22.00 to $25.30 per hour

Final level and starting pay will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated competencies, and internal equity.
