Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Services related field.
  • Experience in Human Services, Case Management or Counseling.
  • Knowledge of NYC housing programs and subsidies (CityFHEPS, HPD Section 8, HRA, SOTA, EOSD, supportive housing).
  • Experience with CARES and CurRent preferred.
  • Experience negotiating leases with landlords or management companies.
  • Knowledge of state and city housing and disability laws and codes.
  • Computer proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in email and database management.
  • A valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates housing searches, apartment viewings, lease signings, and housing appointments.
  • Interfaces with landlords and management companies to establish working relationships.
  • Create and maintain a relationship with the DHS Housing Placement Unit.
  • Oversees landlord and management company compliance with housing laws, codes, and lease agreements.
  • Works with Social Services to identify potential housing clients.
  • Resolves crises or conflicts with landlords and management companies to ensure client needs are met.
  • Ensures fair housing standards in securing apartments.
  • Develops and maintains a database of available housing.
  • Identifies new housing opportunities through networks.
  • Prepares and coordinates reports related to housing codes and compliance.
  • Guides clients through subsidy applications (CityFHEPS, FHEPS, SOTA, etc.) and submits housing packages.
  • Prepares housing packages (HRA 2010E, CityFHEPS, HPD Section 8, SOTA, EOSD) and collaborates with Case Management on psycho-social applications.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide clients through subsidy applications and documentation requirements, including CityFHEPS, FHEPS, SOTA, and other housing programs and submit housing packages.
  • Prepare housing packages (HRA's 2010E Application, General Population Supportive Housing Packages, CityFHEPS, HPD Section 8 Process, SOTA, EOSD, etc.) and collaborate with Case Management staff on the preparation of psycho-social applications and assist in the access of any needed documents.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma is required. Bachelor's degree with a major in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Social Work, or other Human Services concentration preferred.
  • Experience in Human Services, Case Management or Counseling.
  • Knowledge of NYC housing programs and subsidies, including CityFHEPS, HPD Section 8, HRA housing applications, SOTA, EOSD, and supportive housing.
  • Experience working with CARES and CurRent preferred.
  • Work experience negotiating lease agreements with landlords and/or realtor management companies and providing housing for special needs populations.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and city housing and disability laws and codes.
  • Computer proficiency, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Programs, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in email and database management.
  • A valid driver’s license preferred.
