Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • LIHTC Certification and Fair Housing Training preferred; company-sponsored if not held.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process, and manage documents and communications for affordable housing programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for applicants, residents, and the public, answering inquiries.
  • Support housing lotteries, showings, screening, and waiting list management in accordance with guidelines.
  • Prepare files for regulatory submission and monitor through approval and move-in.
  • Maintain tenant files and annual recertifications; coordinate income recertifications.
  • Assist residents with subsidy programs (SCRIE, DRIE, NYCHA, Section 8, CityFHEPS, EHV).
  • Coordinate mailings for registrations, renewals, and leases; deliver mailings to Post Office.
  • Liaise with NYC agencies ensuring timely submissions and compliance.
  • Perform general admin duties for Affordable Housing Department.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Housing Specialist to join our Affordable Housing team.

Position Summary

The Housing Specialist supports the Affordable Housing Department in the administration of affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance requirements. This role is responsible for assisting with affordable housing lotteries, applicant screening, waiting list management, tenant certifications and recertifications, lease renewals, regulatory submissions, resident communications, and program documentation.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to providing excellent service while ensuring compliance with affordable housing regulations and agency requirements.

  • Prepare, process, and manage documents and communications related to affordable housing programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for applicants, residents, and the public, responding to inquiries and providing assistance regarding housing programs and eligibility requirements.
  • Support affordable housing lotteries, conduct apartment showings, applicant screening, interviews, and waiting list management in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare applicant files for submission to regulatory agencies and monitor applications through approval and move-in.
  • Create, maintain, and organize tenant files and annual recertification files.
  • Coordinate annual income recertifications, including scheduling inspections, obtaining and reviewing documentation, and following up on outstanding items.
  • Prepare and process lease renewals for affordable housing residents.
  • Maintain electronic records and Tenant Income Certification (TIC) documentation.
  • Assist residents with housing subsidy programs, including SCRIE, DRIE, NYCHA, Section 8, CityFHEPS, EHV, and other assistance programs.
  • Coordinate and prepare mailings related to apartment registrations, lease renewals, initial leases, and recertifications, including delivering mailings to the Post Office.
  • Support agency registrations, inspections, reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Liaise with various New York City agencies and regulatory bodies, ensuring timely submission of documentation, responding to inquiries, and maintaining compliance with program requirements.
  • Perform general administrative and office support functions for the Affordable Housing Department.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in affordable housing, social services, property management, public administration, urban planning, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of HPD Housing Connect strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Yardi and/or BuildingLink is a plus.
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing programs, subsidy programs, and regulatory compliance requirements is preferred.
  • Low‑Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Certification and Fair Housing Training are required. Candidates who are not currently certified will receive company‑sponsored certification and training.

Salary Range:$50,000 - $75,000 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications.
