Job summary

USVETS Inglewood seeks a Housing Specialist to help veterans and their families secure and sustain safe, affordable housing under the SSVF program. You will assess housing needs, coordinate with landlords, and connect clients to case managers and community resources.

You will coordinate transportation, maintain confidential records, and ensure compliance with program requirements while supporting participants toward stability and independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field required.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirements.
• Experience working with homeless and/or veterans preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess participants’ housing needs, barriers, and progress and develop appropriate housing strategies.
• Help veterans and families identify, apply for, and secure safe and affordable housing.
• Support participants in maintaining housing and connecting to community resources and supportive services.
• Coordinate transportation to housing-related appointments, resources, and services as needed.
• Maintain participant confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries.
• Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, housing providers, and community agencies.
• Identify available housing opportunities and recruit property owners willing to work with veterans facing housing barriers.
• Coordinate with SSVF case managers, VA personnel, and community partners to support participant housing and stability.
• Complete accurate and timely HMIS data entry and maintain case records.

About the RoleThe Housing Specialist supports homeless and at-risk veterans and their families in obtaining and maintaining stable housing through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. This role combines housing navigation, landlord engagement, documentation, and supportive services to help participants overcome housing barriers and move toward greater stability and independence.What You’ll DoHousing & Participant SupportAssess participants’ housing needs, barriers, and progress and develop appropriate housing strategies.Help veterans and families identify, apply for, and secure safe and affordable housing.Support participants in maintaining housing and connecting to community resources and supportive services.Coordinate transportation to housing-related appointments, resources, and services as needed.Maintain participant confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries.Landlord & Community PartnershipsDevelop and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, housing providers, and community agencies.Identify available housing opportunities and recruit property owners willing to work with veterans facing significant housing barriers.Coordinate with SSVF case managers, VA personnel, and community partners to support participant housing and overall stability.Build professional relationships that expand housing options for veterans and their families.Program Compliance & DocumentationConduct rent reasonableness assessments in accordance with SSVF requirements and maintain supporting documentation.Obtain required housing and participant documentation for case files.Assist with temporary financial assistance payments in accordance with program requirements.Complete accurate and timely HMIS data entry and maintain case records.Track and report participant progress in accordance with program and funding requirements.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in social services field or a related field requiredA minimum of 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirementsExperience working with homeless and/or veterans preferredStrong oral, written and communication skillsStrong organizational skillsAbility to work within a teamComputer proficient in Microsoft Office and InternetValid driver’s license required.
