Job summary

The Doe Fund is seeking a Housing Specialist to join its Brooklyn-based team, reporting to the Director of Discharge Planning, Housing & Recruitment. The role focuses on securing housing for clients, coordinating with landlords, and ensuring compliance with housing laws and codes.

You will maintain relationships with landlords and manage a caseload of clients receiving outside income. Responsibilities include creating housing packages, liaising with Case Management, tracking housing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2–3 years of community-based residential management experience or related field.
• Experience negotiating lease agreements with landlords and/or management companies for housing.
• Knowledge of applicable state and city housing and disability laws and codes.
• Computer literate.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Interface with landlords and management companies to establish working relationships.
• Create and maintain liaison with the DHS Housing Placement Unit.
• Oversee compliance with housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.
• Work with Case Management to identify potential housing for clients.
• Resolve crises with landlords to meet client needs and maintain compliance.
• Monitor and revise housing management relationships.
• Ensure fair housing standards when securing apartments.
• Develop and maintain a database of available housing.
• Identify new housing opportunities through ongoing networks.
• Prepare reports related to housing codes and compliance.
• Inform Case Management of apartment readiness and problems.
• Maintain a caseload (min. 10) of clients receiving outside income.
• Prepare housing packages and collaborate on psycho-social applications.
