Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Transit Homeless Outreach staff member in New York City to support clients with housing interviews, benefits enrollment, and coordination among housing providers.

You will liaise with DHS, landlords, and case managers, assist with data entry, and help clients access permanent housing options, contributing to a compassionate, client-centered service delivery.

Qualifications

• BA/BS preferred with experience in processing housing applications (NYCHA, Section 8, NY/NY 2010e, CITY FHEPS, SEPS, HUD-VASH).
• Minimum 2 years working with clients on homelessness, addictions, mental illness, entitlements and housing.
• Demonstrable writing and communication skills; computer proficiency required.
• Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred; valid driver’s license preferred; fire safety and First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Submit, compile, copy, and distribute housing packages and subsidy/voucher letters.
• Escort clients to medical, benefits, and housing interviews; coordinate housing-related appointments.
• Liaise between program and housing providers; track data in databases.
• Research permanent housing options; liaise with providers for new housing opportunities.
• Coordinate moves with DHS, landlords, and other key personnel; work with Transit ILS and Case managers.
