Job summary

The City of Topeka is seeking a community-minded individual to support Housing Services, working on rehabilitation projects and inspections to help homeowners and tenants stay in their homes. You will partner with contractors and property owners throughout the construction process.

The ideal candidate brings strong customer service, basic construction knowledge, prioritization skills, and good judgment. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and several

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and city insurable driving record.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in housing construction/remodeling with knowledge of construction trades.
• Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel is desired.
• Familiarity with a specification writing/estimating system such as Housing Developer Pro.
• Must be able to pass tests and become State licensed as an Asbestos Inspector, Lead-Paint Risk Assessor and HQS Inspector within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform residential housing inspections to determine deficiencies and repairs to bring properties into compliance with local, state and federal codes.
• Draft construction specifications and cost estimates.
• Manage rehabilitation projects through the full construction process.
