Job summary

The City of Savannah Housing & Neighborhood Servicing department seeks a Construction Inspector to inspect homes, prepare cost estimates, and coordinate repairs and contractor work. The role ensures compliance with housing codes and safety standards, including lead paint programs.

Responsibilities include meeting with homeowners and contractors, reviewing bids, and managing project progress from planning through completion. Strong communication and regulatory knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 2 years in building construction or rehabilitation, plan review, code enforcement or related field.

Responsibilities

• Inspect existing homes to determine minor repair needs.
• Prepare work write-ups, specs, and cost estimates.
• Meet homeowners, landlords, contractors, developers and realtors to discuss improvements and progress.
• Manage construction projects, review bids, and approve progress and final draws.
• Ensure lead-based paint safety certification for repairs and renovations.
• Coordinate volunteer home repair and construction projects.
• Answer inquiries and provide customer service to the public and city staff.
