Job summary

Miami County Board of Commissioners is seeking a Housing Specialist to assist individuals with mental illness or SUD in securing and maintaining housing, and to monitor assigned units. The role uses a Recovery Model and requires strong documentation and coordination with partner agencies.

Responsibilities include budgeting with clients, preparing rental agreements, verifying eligibility, completing benefit applications, inspections, and maintaining progress notes and releases.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in behavioral health or related field required.
• 2–4 years related experience preferred or equivalent.
• Knowledge of mental illness, SUD, and entitlement programs helpful.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general information; strong writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide outreach to persons with mental illness or SUD who are homeless or at risk.
• Assist clients with budgeting and housing applications.
• Complete rental agreements and verify eligibility.
• Assist with benefits and employment applications as needed.
• Conduct apartment inspections and maintain safety standards.
• Maintain progress notes and releases; document per requirements.
• Serve as liaison between clients and referral sources.
• Participate in on-call rotations and document placements.
• Ensure case management documentation is complete and accessible to providers.
