Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or higher and five years of code enforcement or field investigative experience.
• Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector (ICC) at appointment and Residential Building Code Inspector (ICC) within twelve months of appointment.
• Registration as Code Enforcement Officer (Texas) within six months and Code Enforcement Officer II within twelve months of appointment.
• Texas Class C Driver License or equivalent required.
• Under general supervision, supervise, coordinate and conduct field inspections to ensure conformance with codes for public health and safety.
• Perform routine to complex code compliance activities, investigate complaints, issue notices, and prepare cases for the Building and Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate and conduct field inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with city/state codes.
• Investigate complaints and enforce regulatory codes and ordinances.
• Issue correction notices, stop work orders, and citations for violations.
• Prepare and present cases to the Building and Standards Commission.
• Assist with planning and prioritizing inspections for staff.
• Inspect residential, commercial and vacant properties; review plans and specs.
• Inform and interpret code requirements to property owners and tenants.
