Job summary

Oklahoma County Detention Center is seeking an entry-level Housing Monitor to help operate the facility around the clock. You will perform monitoring duties, log activities, and coordinate with staff to maintain safety and order.

The role requires completing jail training programs and complying with federal/state laws, agency policies, and health regulations. It offers on-site work and opportunities to learn and grow within public safety.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Complete/pass background check and drug screening.
• No felony conviction.
• Ability to work in loud and sometimes chaotic environment.
• Available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays or other special shifts.
• Stand or sit for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant supervision of inmates within the detention facility.
• Conduct regular security checks, monitor surveillance systems, and ensure the secure confinement of inmates.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including medical situations, disturbances, and fire incidents.
• Document daily activities, incidents, and observations in clear and accurate reports.
• Maintain effective communication with fellow team members, supervisors, and inmates.
• Interact with inmates in a professional and respectful manner, addressing concerns and providing information within the scope of policies.
• Actively participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills and stay current with policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with other detention officers, law enforcement agencies, and support staff.
• Contribute to the safe and orderly detention environment, promoting a culture of respect and accountability.

About the Role

The position of Housing Monitor is an entry-level position of the Oklahoma County Detention Center. A Housing Monitor assists in the around-the-clock operation of the Oklahoma County Detention Center in accordance with the established procedures and requirements outlined in federal/state laws, the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority, and the Oklahoma Department of Health regulations and guidelines. Housing Monitors must complete authorized jail training programs to perform their duties. The training program is designed to ensure proper monitoring and provide effective instruction throughout the training in accordance with federal and state laws. Housing Monitors are trained in many other areas pertaining to their work environment, safety and security, and job-related duties. Housing Monitorsmust comply with all policies and procedures set forth by the Jail Administrator.
