Job summary

City of Marshalltown in Marshalltown, IA is seeking a housing inspector who will perform rental housing inspections to enforce codes, conduct HUD-related lead risk assessments, and address nuisance/code violations. You will also support general office duties as needed.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent with some relevant training/experience, and may be required to obtain HUD inspection certification and a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor credential within a reasonable period.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by six to twelve months additional training in property maintenance, property management, building trades, construction or closely related fields or educational training as a required minimum; and
• Some experience in code enforcement work with a City government preferred, preferably in the State of Iowa; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities

• Performs rental housing inspections to enforce conformance with the most recently adopted codes including but not limited to the International Code Series, Uniform Code Series, HUD Inspection Standards, and/or any other codes, ordinances, regulations, or laws pertaining to rental housing; performs lead inspection/risk assessments as required for the HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Rent Assistance Program; enforces nuisance/code violations; performs a wide variety of general office duties; does related work as required.
