Job summary

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) seeks an exceptional Housing Assistant to provide housing services clerical support and quality customer service in Sacramento.

The position involves data entry, processing applications, determining eligibility, and coordinating with participants and staff to ensure accurate, timely service. AA degree preferred; two years of data entry and customer service experience ideal.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • AA degree preferred.
  • Two years experience in data entry, basic Word, math, and customer service required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive applications and interview new and continuing participants.
  • Explain policies and procedures and conduct orientations and briefing sessions for prospective participants.
  • Answer telephone and respond to inquiries regarding Housing Authority services.
  • Take information for pre-applications over the phone.
  • Determine new and continued eligibility for all housing program participants.
  • Process paperwork for housing subsidy programs.
  • Prepare forms to verify participant income and deductions.
  • Maintain waiting list and waiting pool.
  • Prepare leases and contracts.
  • Type letters and other material from rough drafts or verbal instructions.
  • Post a variety of information into computer system.
  • Update active case files.

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) is looking for an exceptional Housing Assistant to provide housing services clerical support and quality customer service.

Examination

Only up to 100 candidates may be invited to the written examination. Only up to 16 who pass the written examination will be invited to the oral exam. Both the written and the oral must be passed in order to be placed on the eligible list for this classification.

  • Implement the departments Mission Statement in all aspects of customer contact
  • Receive applications and interview new and continuing participants
  • Explain policies and procedures and conduct orientations and briefing sessions for prospective participants
  • Answer telephone and respond to inquiries regarding Housing Authority services
  • Take information for pre-applications over the phone
  • Determine new and continued eligibility for all housing program participants
Operations
  • Assist Technical Specialist - Housing Authority
  • Process paperwork for housing subsidy programs
  • Calculate tenant financial responsibility
  • Maintain waiting list and waiting pool
  • Prepare forms to verify participant income and deductions
  • Review participant applications, records and reports to check for completeness and accuracy Schedule inspections, interviews, orientations and briefing appointments
  • Update active case files
Financial Records
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and financial reports
  • Receive fees, charges and payments on debts to the Housing Authority
General Office
  • Gather information and prepare routine reports
  • Generate notices and prepare for mailing
  • Type letters and other material from rough drafts, margin notes or verbal instructions
  • Compose routine correspondence
  • Post a variety of information into computer system
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies
  • Update training and procedure manuals
  • Prepare leases and contracts
  • Perform other general office duties such as route mail, make photocopies, etc.
