The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is seeking a Housekeeping & Public Spaces Supervisor to ensure high standards of campus cleanliness. Position Summary

The Housekeeping and Public Spaces Supervisor is responsible for ensuring high standards of campus cleanliness is continuously met through the supervision of in-house cleaners, coordination with cleaning contractors, and consistent quality control measures. This role combines active supervision with performing cleaning and maintenance duties in collaboration with team members and contracted cleaning personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Cleaning Associates

• Performs routine walkthroughs of all visitor areas to assess cleanliness, operations, inventory, and organization, with a focus on minimizing liability and maintaining an exceptional guest experience; ensures assigned work is completed.
• Responsible for the hiring, scheduling, training, coaching and supervision of Cleaning Associates.
• Follows the Collective Bargain Agreement and ensures compliance.
• Issue progressive discipline in accordance with the Collective Bargain Agreement and HR Policy Handbook.
• Monitors time off and approves timesheets.
• Responsible for the management of performance evaluations (Introductory Period and Planning & Development Form).
• Reviews cleaning assignments and organizes them to successfully meet needs.
• Serves as communication liaison with the contracted after-hour cleaners, and coordinates with them to meet needs.
• Arrange for specialized cleaning services as necessary.
• Ensures cleaning equipment is properly maintained and remains in good working order.
• Oversees the stock and organization of custodial storage spaces, cleaning closets, and carts.
• Coordinates with supplier to ensure custodial inventory is maintained.
• Opens and closes buildings as necessary.
• Reports property issues to Facilities team and provides support as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with Events Operations management to provide hands-on support as needed to restore rental spaces to pre-event conditions.
• Supports the Facilities team with office cleanings and relocations, including furniture assembly/disassembly and moving furnishings.
• Performs maintenance to visitor spaces, such as patching, painting, polishing, replacing light bulbs, power washing, high dusting. Ensures furniture and fixtures are in good working condition.
• Supports grounds maintenance activities, such as weeding, leaf blowing, and snow removal.
• Assists in the development of procedures and policies.
• Provides access to and escorts vendors and contractors, as needed.
• Implements and supports museum policies/procedures.
• Able to understand and perform emergency procedures.
• Attend meetings/trainings as required.
• Participate in one Museum Committee.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education

Combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. High School diploma is required.

Experience

At least two (2) years of related experience required. Supervisory experience required.

Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage

• Position requires moving about the Museum floor on a regular, consistent basis to monitor staff and may occasionally support set up and tear down of events.
• Uses ladders/lifts (as trained) for lighting replacement, high dusting, and debris removal.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
• The person in this position frequently communicates with staff and partners. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
• Constantly operates a computer and other productivity equipment.

Work Environment, Hours Of Work, And Travel Requirements

• Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
• On-site Thursday through Monday, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Schedule may need to be flexible to accommodate events and staff call-offs and may vary based on business needs. Evening hours may be required for events.

FBI fingerprints (Department of Human Services), PA Child Abuse History Certification (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
