Job summary

Southminster in Charlotte, NC seeks a Housekeeping Manager to lead daily operations, supervise staff, and ensure top cleanliness and safety across facilities.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing a housekeeping team with 15+ employees preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial or healthcare housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to manage staffing, supplies, inventory, and department budget.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient with standard office tech.
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to change.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree, CIMS certification, CMMS experience.

  • Collaborate with maintenance, facilities, healthcare, events, and other departments.
  • Prepare reports and communicate department needs to leadership.
  • Fill in during shortages and lead by example in daily duties.
  • Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Summary

The Housekeeping Manager leads the daily operations of the housekeeping department to maintain a clean, safe, welcoming environment for residents, guests, and employees. This role oversees staffing, scheduling, training, quality inspections, supply inventory, and departmental budget needs.

The Housekeeping Manager is the senior leader within the housekeeping department and works closely with the other departments to resolve operational concerns, support resident satisfaction, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and organizational standards. This position may provide coverage and leadership for the broader Environmental Services Department as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily housekeeping operations across offices, common areas, restrooms, independent living apartments, healthcare rooms, event spaces, and other public areas.
  • Supervise, coach, motivate, and develop housekeeping team members, including day, event, and post-event crews.
  • Create staff schedules and maintain appropriate coverage based on operational needs.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate new housekeeping employees.
  • Conduct routine quality‑assurance inspections and follow up promptly on cleanliness, safety, maintenance, or service concerns.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, professionalism, and resident‑centered service.
  • Coordinate the safe handling and disposal of biohazardous waste in healthcare areas in accordance with established procedures.
  • Order cleaning supplies and equipment; maintain accurate inventory records and manage purchases within the department budget.
  • Evaluate new cleaning methods, tools, and equipment to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Ensure housekeeping equipment is maintained, repaired, or replaced as needed.
  • Investigate and resolve staffing, workflow, and performance concerns; implement plans that support team productivity and service goals.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, facilities, healthcare, events, and other departments on projects, work priorities, and estimated completion timelines.
  • Prepare reports and communicate department updates, needs, and unresolved concerns to the Assistant Director.
  • Fill in during staffing shortages when necessary and lead by example in daily housekeeping duties.
  • Attend required meetings and complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Associate degree or at least two years of college coursework; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of experience in facilities, janitorial, custodial, environmental services, or housekeeping operations for a large organization or across multiple facilities.
  • At least two years of supervisory or team‑lead experience.
  • Experience managing, coaching, and developing a housekeeping team; experience supervising 15 or more employees is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial or healthcare housekeeping processes, procedures, and cleaning standards.
  • Ability to manage staffing levels, schedules, supplies, inventory, and a departmental budget.
  • Strong customer service, organizational, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and mobile devices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly to changing operational needs.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • CIMS certification.
  • Experience in a senior living, healthcare, hospitality, residential, or multi‑site environment.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software.
Work Environment

This position works primarily indoors in offices, residential apartments, healthcare spaces, public areas, and other operational locations. The role may periodically require outdoor work and travel between facilities or work areas.

The Housekeeping Manager may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, odors, dust, noise, biohazardous materials, and other typical environmental‑services conditions. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment are provided and must be used as required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to inspect work areas and demonstrate housekeeping procedures when needed.
  • Ability to safely use office equipment, mobile devices, cleaning tools, and housekeeping equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull cleaning supplies and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
