Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. The role includes but is not limited to emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, and using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The Technician demonstrates knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment and applies this to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff. Responsibilities cover patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas, ensuring health standards are met. Proper protective equipment is worn following the appropriate guidelines. Storage, equipment, and carts are kept well‑stocked, clean, and tidy. Technicians have access to pagers and other technology and are responsible for using them appropriately when needed. Assistance in the laundry areas is provided as appropriate. Physical activities include significant use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The Technician must be able to lift and or move up to 40‑50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or ramps. The position requires standing for the majority of the shift and may expose the Technician to certain noise levels from equipment. Work hours may vary by patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred. Ability to use a computer and prior cleaning experience is helpful. Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful. Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required. Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
