Founded in 1978, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people with nature through immersive outdoor education. Each year, more than 12,000 children, families, educators, and adults visit our beautiful campus near Lanesboro, Minnesota for overnight school programs, summer camps, retreats, and outdoor adventures. Job Summary

Eagle Bluff is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Lead Housekeeper to oversee daily housekeeping operations and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our guests. This position provides day-to-day direction and support to part-time housekeeping staff while also performing hands-on cleaning, laundry, and light facilities tasks throughout campus.

No housekeeping experience is required as we’re happy to train the right person. Because Eagle Bluff serves school groups, families, camps, and retreats throughout the year, every staff member contributes to creating an outstanding guest experience.

Essential Functions:
  • 40% Clean and maintain guest facilities, including dormitory rooms, hallways, public gathering spaces, restrooms, stairs, guest lounge, bathrooms, and other common areas to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Participate in a rotating schedule of preventative guest room inspections and follow established treatment protocols when needed.
  • 15% Provide daily leadership and coordination for housekeeping operations, including directing the work of part-time housekeeping staff, establishing daily priorities, providing guidance and training, assisting with quality checks, and ensuring housekeeping standards are consistently met.
  • 15% Maintain interior spaces and surfaces, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, carpet cleaning, dusting, window washing, sanitizing, and completing detailed cleaning tasks throughout campus.
  • 10%Assist with facility and grounds maintenance, including sweeping sidewalks, painting, steam cleaning carpets, moving furniture, turning mattresses, changing light maintenance items, and other seasonal projects.
  • 10%Manage laundry and linen operations, including collecting, washing, folding, stocking linens and blankets, maintaining linen closets, and coordinating with education staff to ensure linens are ready for arriving groups.
  • 5% Manage housekeeping supplies, equipment, and purchasing, including maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, organizing storage areas, and ensuring staff have the materials needed to complete their work effectively.
  • 5% Support guest services and campus operations by reporting maintenance issues, communicating with coworkers, assisting other departments as needed, and helping maintain Eagle Bluff’s high standards of hospitality.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Safely use cleaning products and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged property, or lost-and-found items promptly.
  • Assist with training seasonal staff who live in the dormitory on cleaning procedures and expectations for shared living spaces.
  • Participate in campus-wide projects and special events as needed.
  • Represent Eagle Bluff in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner with guests, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, flexibility, and problem-solving.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • No prior housekeeping experience required; Eagle Bluff is willing to train the right candidate.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff across departments.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, interruptions, and a dynamic environment with students, guests, staff, and visitors present.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and a positive attitude during busy periods and when managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to provide clear communication, direction, and support to coworkers and part-time housekeeping staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest experience.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a flexible schedule based on program needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, or adjusted hours.
  • Ability to represent Eagle Bluff in a professional, welcoming, and service-oriented manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in housekeeping, custodial services, hospitality, facilities operations, or a related field.
  • Experience training, directing, or providing work guidance to other employees.
  • Experience managing inventory, ordering supplies, or maintaining purchasing records.
  • Experience working in a school, camp, retreat center, hotel, healthcare, or other guest-focused environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors.

The employee may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, allergens, bodily fluids, infectious materials, and varying weather conditions while performing assigned duties.

The employee must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing schedules based on guest needs and organizational priorities.

The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may increase during busy program periods when students, staff, and visitors are present.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time while performing cleaning, inspection, and facility support tasks.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, operate, and manipulate cleaning tools, equipment, supplies, and computer equipment.
  • Reach with hands and arms, including reaching overhead and into confined spaces.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, crawl, and climb while cleaning and maintaining facilities.
  • Clean and inspect bunk beds, including reaching into upper and lower bunks.
  • Climb stairs and use step stools or short ladders safely.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, including cleaning supplies, laundry, mattresses, furniture, and equipment.
  • Push and pull loaded cleaning carts and other equipment throughout campus.
  • Move and rearrange furniture as needed for cleaning, inspections, and guest preparation.
  • Perform repetitive motions such as vacuuming, mopping, wiping, scrubbing, folding linens, and operating cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain hand strength and dexterity needed to operate cleaning tools, spray bottles, vacuums, mops, and other equipment.
  • Maintain visual attention to detail, including the ability to identify cleanliness standards, inspect rooms, detect maintenance concerns, and read labels and instructions on cleaning products.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, seasonal staff, supervisors, and guests.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
