Job summary

McAlester Regional Health Center is seeking a Housekeeping Tech to maintain a clean, safe environment across hospital areas. You will disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, and public spaces, following infection prevention standards.

The role supports patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring cleanliness, safe handling of waste, and proper PPE usage. Shift flexibility, including nights and weekends, may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in environmental services/ housekeeping preferred.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment preferred.
• Follows detailed instructions, hospital procedures, and safety protocols.
• Works independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable around patients, visitors, families, and healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, operating rooms, waiting areas, restrooms, and other hospital areas as per procedures.
• Perform terminal and isolation room cleaning following infection prevention protocols.
• Replenish paper products, soap, hand sanitizers, and other supplies as needed.
• Properly handle and dispose of medical and hazardous waste according to hospital procedures.
• Safely use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Report maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly.
• Maintain patient privacy and professionalism in patient care areas.
• Work as part of a team and communicate respectfully with patients, families, staff.

About the Role

The Housekeeping position plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. Housekeeping Techs help protect patients, visitors, and staff by cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, treatment areas, public spaces, restrooms, and other areas according to hospital procedures and infection prevention standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous environmental services, housekeeping, custodial, or cleaning experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment preferred.
• Follows detailed instructions, hospital procedures, and safety protocols.
• Works independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
• Comfortable working around patients, visitors, families, and healthcare staff.
• Safely performs repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the shift.
• Comfortable working around bodily fluids, infectious materials, and other unpleasant cleaning situations while following proper safety procedures.
• Able to bend, stoop, pull, push, reach, lift, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the shift.
• Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a hospital, healthcare, or clinical environment.
• Familiarity with healthcare infection prevention practices, OSHA requirements, and Joint Commission standards.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Dependability and willingness to work the full scheduled shift.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities:

• Perform terminal and isolation room cleaning according to infection prevention and safety procedures.
• Replenish paper products, soap, hand sanitizers, and other supplies as needed.

• Safely use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages promptly.
• Follow infection prevention and hospital safety procedures.
• Work as part of a team and communicate respectfully with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Maintain patient privacy and professionalism while working in patient care areas.
• Use good judgment when entering patient rooms, as patients, families, or healthcare staff may be present.
• Work with compassion and respect around patients who may be sick, confused, sleeping, or receiving care.
• Safely work around bodily fluids and infectious materials while following required safety procedures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
• Complete assigned cleaning duties within expected timeframes and according to hospital standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

Ability to notice areas that need additional cleaning and ensure spaces meet hospital cleanliness standards. Arrives on time, works the scheduled shift, and completes assigned duties. Works well with Housekeeping team members and other hospital departments. Understands that Housekeeping Techs work around patients and families who may be sick, upset, or under stress. Able to communicate respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff. Understands the importance of following cleaning, chemical, infection prevention, and safety procedures. Able to adjust to changing priorities and cleaning needs throughout the shift. Able to follow assignments and complete work without constant supervision.
