Job summary

VW International is hiring a Housekeeper at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center (VASLC) in Salt Lake City, UT. The role ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment to support patient care and operations.

The Housekeeper will maintain hygiene across patient areas, restrooms, and common spaces while following infection control practices and site security requirements. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required to meet facility needs.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years janitorial or housekeeping experience in healthcare or high-traffic environments.
• Knowledge of VA, CDC, or industry-standard infection control practices.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and comply with site security requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required immunizations or health clearances.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to a clean and safe environment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout hospital facilities and patient care areas.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, waiting areas, offices, patient rooms, and other spaces.
• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and common areas.
• Collect, transport, and dispose of trash and regulated waste per infection control procedures.
• Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and towels.
• Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
• Report maintenance issues and safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
• Follow infection prevention protocols and handle biohazard materials safely.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of meetings, events, and activities as needed.
• Comply with safety policies to protect patients, visitors, staff, and team members.

What You'll Do

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment that supports the delivery of exceptional patient care at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center (VASLC), located at 500 Foothill Boulevard, Salt Lake City, UT 84148.

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout assigned hospital facilities and patient care areas.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, waiting areas, offices, patient rooms, and other designated spaces.
• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors, hallways, and common areas.
• Collect, transport, and properly dispose of trash, regulated medical waste, and other waste materials in accordance with infection control procedures.
• Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, hand sanitizer, towels, and other essential items.
• Monitor inventory levels for cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow established procedures for handling biohazardous materials and adhere to all infection prevention and control protocols.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of meetings, events, and special activities as needed.
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of patients, visitors, staff, and fellow team members.

What You'll Have

• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of janitorial or housekeeping experience in federal, healthcare, hospital, or high-traffic commercial environments.
• Knowledge of VA, CDC, or industry-standard cleaning and infection control practices, including biohazard handling and disinfectant dwell-time requirements.
• Ability to work assigned schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and comply with all site-specific security requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required immunizations or health clearances.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
