Job summary

Brightwell Behavioral Health in East Lansing, Michigan, is seeking a part-time Housekeeper to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors on weekends. The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow infection control practices.

You will perform routine cleaning of patient rooms and common areas, report maintenance needs, handle supplies, and adhere to hospital policies. English communication and basic comprehension are essential.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of housekeeping experience, preferably in a hospital or inpatient facility.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, patient care units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, and stairways in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
• Wash windows, walls, floors, beds, and furniture upon patient discharge. Apply clean linen on disinfected patient beds.
• Report any furniture, fixtures, building, or equipment repairs required to the facilities department.
• Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
• Utilize the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
• Use and maintain equipment properly.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housekeeper is responsible for ensuring the hospital is clean for its patients, staff, and visitors. Housekeeping also adheres to their departmental policies, as well as Brightwell Behavioral's policies and procedures.

*We are currently looking for a part-time housekeeper to work on weekends; both Saturdays and Sundays

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1-2 years of housekeeping experience, preferably in a hospital or inpatient facility.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Facilities Department and Housekeeping function.
• Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, patient care units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, and stairways in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
• Wash windows, walls, floors, beds, and furniture upon patient discharge. Apply clean linen on disinfected patient beds.
• Report any furniture, fixtures, building, or equipment repairs required to the facilities department.
• Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
• Utilize the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
• Use and maintain equipment properly.
• Assist visitors with directions when requested.
• Always introduce self to patients, families, and visitors.
• Report safety hazards as appropriate.
• Transport trash and hazardous waste to the appropriate disposal area.
• Replenish supplies.
• Follow all infection control practices, including handwashing techniques, standard precautions, and isolation precautions.
• Maintain set quality standards when performing job duties.
• Work independently with normal supervision.
• Observe safety and security precautions at all times.
• Adhere to the dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
• Complete annual education requirements.
• Maintain regulatory requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Report to work on time and as scheduled, completing work within the designated time.
• Wear identification while on duty and use the computerized punch time system correctly.
• Complete in-services and return in a timely fashion.
• Attend annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled.
• Attend staff meetings and return all monthly staff meeting minutes.
• Represent the organization positively and professionally.
• Actively participate in performance improvement and quality improvement (QI) activities.
• Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
