Job summary

Ottawa County Jail and Ottawa County Family Justice Center in West Olive, MI, are seeking a dedicated cleaning staff member. This role involves cleaning public areas, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and ensuring a neat, safe environment during evening shifts (6 hours/day, 4 p.m.

– 10 p.m.) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Responsibilities include sanitizing surfaces, restocking supplies, and adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning of public areas, offices, conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms and hallways.
• Clean and sanitize surfaces, restrooms, break room areas, and furnishings.
• Remove litter and manage trash and recycling.
• Restock paper products and cleaning supplies.
• Follow safety protocols and wear required PPE; shifts Mon, Wed and Fri from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Job description

Under direct supervision, conducts daily cleaning of assigned facilities. Maintains public areas, offices, conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms and hallways in neat and clean condition for public and employee use.

This position will be working at the located at the Ottawa County Jail at 12130 Fillmore Street, West Olive, MI 49460 and the Ottawa County Family Justice Center at 12240 Fillmore Street, West Olive 49460 with shifts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. (6 hours/day from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.)

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conducts the daily cleaning of public areas, offices, conference rooms, courtrooms, breakrooms, restrooms and hallways in assigned facilities.
• Cleans, sanitizes and dusts surfaces including, but not limited to, countertops, tables, desks, workstations, chairs, file cabinets, bookcases and other furniture and furnishings. Vacuums upholstery as appropriate. Cleans walls.
• Removes litter from floors and surfaces and places it in trash receptacles. Empties trash receptacles and office paper recycling containers and replaces liners.
• Cleans and sanitizes microwaves, coffee makers and other small appliances in breakroom kitchenettes.
• Defrosts and cleans refrigerators. Runs breakroom dishwashers.
• Restocks paper and other break room supplies.
• Sweeps and mops floors. Vacuums and spot cleans carpets.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including all plumbing fixtures; restocks paper products; fills soap dispensers and air freshening units; and cleans and polishes mirrors, towel dispensers and other fixtures.
• Cleans, sanitizes and polishes drinking fountains.
• Maintains the work area in a neat, clean and safe condition.
• Performs all work in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, labels on cleaning compounds, MSDS data sheets on other notices.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques.
• Basic knowledge of safety and bloodborne protocols.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Commitment to providing quality service to the users of County facilities.
• Ability to interact positively and constructively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and members of the general public with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, to identify spills and stains requiring intensive cleaning and/or disinfecting.
• Must be able to descend to and ascend from floor and ground level several times per day to remove litter and spot clean carpets.
• Must be able to work with arms extended above shoulder level to dust file cabinets, light fixtures and other features, fixtures and furnishings.
• Must be able to ascend/descend stepladders in order to access features and fixtures located at heights that cannot be reached while standing on the floor.
• Must be able to operate vacuum cleaners.
• Must have sufficient manual strength and dexterity to use brooms and manual carpet sweepers.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to dirt, dust, mold, mildew and human wastes.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to custodial cleaning products.
• Must be able to wear all required safety clothing and equipment.

Working Conditions:

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to solvents, detergents, disinfectants, other cleaning compounds, mold, dust, dirt and human wastes. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other disease vectors is also possible.
