Job summary

Kern Valley Healthcare District is seeking an hourly facilities maintenance/cleaning role focused on cleaning and maintaining all floor surfaces and performing routine preventive maintenance. The position emphasizes infection control, safe operation of equipment, and courteous interaction with patients and staff.

Responsibilities include following procedures, replenishing supplies, and reporting hazards while maintaining quality standards and working independently with supervision as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain floors, carpets, tile, and concrete surfaces.
• Perform preventive maintenance on floor equipment.
• Follow infection control practices including handwashing and isolation precautions.
• Use appropriate chemicals, supplies and cleaning techniques.
• Operate and maintain equipment safely.
• Observe safety precautions and use signs for wet floors.
• Replenish supplies and notify supervisor when orders are needed.
• Greet patients, families and visitors and assist with directions.
• Maintain set quality standards in duties.
• Work independently with normal supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Cleans and maintains all carpeted and hard surfaces in the facility. Performs preventive maintenance on special floor equipment. Follows infection control practices as required.

• Performs assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Utilities and Maintenance Departments.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of all floors, carpets, tile, and concrete flooring.
• Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
• Utilizes the appropriate chemicals, supplies and cleaning techniques according to procedure and manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Operates and maintains all equipment correctly and safely.
• Observes safety precautions at all times. Use of safety signs, Wet Floor and ropes off sections of floor for cleaning where appropriate.
• Follows all infection control practices including handwashing techniques, standard precautions and isolation precautions.
• Reports on safety hazards as appropriate.
• Replenish supplies; notify the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
• Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
• Assist visitors with directions whenever requested.
• Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
• Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

Regulatory Requirements:

• High School Graduate or equivalent.

• One to three months related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

• Additional languages preferred.

Skills:

• Basic computer knowledge.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Ability to read and understand equipment manuals.
