Job summary

Better Living in Iowa is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper for our assisted living community. You will maintain clean resident apartments, common areas, and facility spaces while upholding infection control standards and ensuring resident comfort and dignity.

  • Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and infection control standards.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Compassionate and respectful demeanor when working around older adults.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, especially when working in resident-occupied areas.
  • Must pass required criminal background check to serve vulnerable adults.
  • TB and other health screenings as required by state.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize resident apartments, including bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and living areas.
  • Perform daily and scheduled cleaning of common areas such as hallways, lounges, dining rooms, activity spaces, and restrooms.
  • Dust, vacuum, mop, sweep, and polish floors and furniture as needed.
  • Change linens, make beds, and launder resident or facility items as assigned.
  • Safely handle and store cleaning supplies, following infection control and safety protocols.
  • Report maintenance needs, safety hazards, or resident concerns to staff promptly.
  • Respect resident privacy and belongings while working in living spaces.
  • Assist in preparing rooms for new residents to ensure a clean move-in experience.
  • Collaborate with care staff and other departments to support resident well-being and satisfaction.
  • Adhere to community policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Summary:

The Housekeeper plays a vital role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors in our assisted living community. Requirements:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to bend, lift, carry, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Constant and repetitive movement of fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors.
  • Possible exposure to chemicals as indicated in the MSDS manual.
