Breaking Ground on the Bowery in Manhattan maintains a Safe Haven at The Andrews with 146 units. We are seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to clean common areas and client spaces, assisting on-site services to keep the environment safe, clean, and welcoming. Your duties include floor care, waste handling, and assistance to maintenance staff.

This 35-hour, on-site role reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and supports residents and staff in a respectful, supportive building environment.

Qualifications

• Comparable work experience.
• Experience operating vacuum cleaners and buffers.
• Ability to lift and move furniture and equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum common areas and client spaces.
• Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces.
• Maintain sidewalks and outdoor areas as needed.
• Set up and clean for meetings and events.
• Assist other staff and move to different facilities as required.

But we didn\'t stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground\'s programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Located on the Bowery in Manhattan, The Andrews is a Safe Haven comprised of 146 units for individuals not yet ready to transition into permanent housing, as well as those who may have struggled in other housing programs. The Andrews offers an alternative to life on the street: private, safe, clean, and affordable short-term accommodations. On-site case management and clinical services are available to meet the needs of its residents and to help those ready to move into secure, permanent housing.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Housekeeperis a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned.

This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum
• Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces
• Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow
• Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order
• Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations
• Operate compactor
• Set up and clean up for meetings and other events
• Assist painters and engineers when assigned
• Perform work at other facilities as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Comparable work experience
• Experience operating of vacuum cleaner, high speed buffer
• Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc.
• High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent
• Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency
• Experience working with special needs populations a plus
• Basic knowledge of using a computer is a plus, but is not required
