Job summary

The Louis S. Wolk JCC of Greater Rochester in Rochester, NY is seeking a full-time housekeeper to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for members, guests, and staff.

Responsibilities include routine cleaning, sanitizing high-traffic areas, and upkeep of restrooms and common spaces using industrial equipment. This role is unionized and uniforms are provided; compensation is $16 per hour.

Qualifications

• One-year related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean locker rooms, shower stalls, and washrooms daily to maintain sanitation and safety standards.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors using industrial cleaning equipment.
• Operate mechanized cleaning equipment such as vacuums, polishers, and buffers.
• Wash interior and exterior windows according to schedule.
• Strip and recoat all floor areas as needed per maintenance plan.
• Move furniture and equipment to access all areas during cleaning.
• Remove stains from rugs, walls, and floors using appropriate cleaning chemicals.
• Empty trash containers daily and ensure proper disposal of waste.
• Report maintenance or repair needs to supervisor and follow safety protocols.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In this role, you will help ensure that our facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming for all members, guests, and staff. Responsibilities include performing routine cleaning, sanitizing high-traffic areas, maintaining restrooms and common spaces, and supporting the overall upkeep of the building.

HOW I WILL CONTRIBUTE

• Clean locker rooms, shower stalls, and washrooms daily to maintain sanitation and safety standards.


• Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax, and polish various floor surfaces using industrial cleaning equipment, including scrubbing and buffing machines.


• Operate mechanized cleaning equipment such as vacuums, polishers, and buffers.


• Wash interior and exterior windows according to the established schedule.


• Strip and recoat all floor areas as needed and in accordance with scheduled maintenance.


• Use ladders to clean walls, ceilings, vents, ceiling fans, and high or hard-to-reach areas.


• Clean bathrooms, sink areas, offices, classrooms, common areas, and all other assigned spaces.


• Dust all surfaces, including furniture, fixtures, equipment, and windowsills.


• Move furniture and equipment to ensure thorough cleaning of all areas.


• Remove stains from rugs, walls, floors, and other surfaces using appropriate cleaning chemicals and solutions.


• Empty trash containers daily and ensure proper disposal of waste.


• Safely handle and store various cleaning solvents, chemicals, and supplies in compliance with safety protocols.


• Plan and organize work schedules for major cleaning tasks.


• Perform seasonal tasks such as sweeping exterior walkways or removing snow as needed.


• Report any maintenance or repair needs immediately to the supervisor.


• Communicate effectively with staff, members, and other facility personnel.


• Performs all duties as assigned.


• Union position and Uniforms will be provided.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Regularly stands, extensive walking, using hands and fingers, repetitive motion, carries, reaches, pulls, climbs, balances and lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work near moving mechanical parts
