Housekeeper | Highland Hospital | Charleston, West Virginia

About the Job:

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy patient care environment by ensuring assigned areas are clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly. The role includes advising supervisors on environmental services equipment needs and repairs, and ensuring scheduled waste disposal and confidentiality procedures are followed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Perform cleaning and custodial tasks to uphold sanitation and cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing fixtures, and bathroom cleaning.
2. Clean facility rooms, baths, laboratories, offices, and halls using appropriate equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, sweepers, and carpet cleaners.
3. Wash bed frames, brush mattresses, and remake beds after patient discharge when applicable.
4. Maintain utility and storage rooms in an organized manner.
5. Operate commercial washers and dryers to launder soiled linens as directed.
6. Follow infection control standards, transport soiled linens, and distribute laundered items.
7. Clean floors thoroughly, paying attention to slip and fall risks.
8. Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies; dust furniture and equipment.
9. Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, and door panels.
10. Empty wastebaskets and transport trash to disposal areas.
11. Disinfect rooms, furniture, fixtures, and equipment using appropriate germicides.
12. Check inventory of cleaning supplies and linen stock daily, ensuring adequate stock levels.
13. Clean and store equipment and supplies properly after each shift.
14. Practice standard/universal precautions and follow environmental safety guidelines, including MSDS instructions.
15. Prepare rooms for meetings and arrange decorations and furniture for facility events.
16. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
17. Previous housekeeping experience in healthcare or similar environments preferred.
