Delivery of safe, efficient, quality patient/resident care through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Initiates, plans, and participates in patient and family education. Supervises staff in the absence of the department leader and accepts responsibility for care provided. Maintains professional nursing standards. Acts as the point person for staff, physicians, patients, families, and visitors. Collaborates with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
Responsibilities:
- Staff the upcoming shift, address staffing needs, and document on the House Supervisor report sheet, justifying decisions to the department leader and CNO as needed.
- Represent administrative leadership, safeguarding confidential and sensitive information.
- Assist with patient care across all areas as required.
- Serve as an administrative resource for staff.
- Communicate pertinent information to the on-coming house supervisor, documenting in the Supervisor’s Communication Book.
- Record disciplinary, staffing, and safety concerns in the Occurrence Reporting System.
- Assist with employee evaluations through input and documentation.
- Represent nursing staff to physicians.
- Respond to emergencies and resuscitations, assuming team leader role unless primary nurse is already leading.
- Evaluate nursing care quality, perform rounds, and ensure patient goals are updated.
- Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Supervise medication records and narcotic counts.
- Participate in simulation and emergency drills.
- Serve as a clinical resource and maintain current knowledge of policies and standards.
- Support leadership decisions and follow the chain of command.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; ADN required, BSN preferred.
- Registered Nurse licensed in Wyoming.
- BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS certifications.
- Ability to calculate medication dosages and IV rates accurately.
- Knowledge of metric and measurement conversions.
- Competent in basic computer skills and electronic applications.
- Ability to work with confused or combative patients.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work under supervision.
- Awareness of cost-effective care delivery.
