Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking House Monitors to oversee safety and security for the Hope Has a Home Medical Respite Program in the Washington DC area. You will assist with day-to-day operations, monitor residents and the environment, and report to the Sr.

Program Director as a key member of the Medical Respite Team. The role involves crisis response, maintaining program structure, and supporting staff to ensure adherence to rules and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; bilingual abilities considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Appropriately respond to any crisis, emergency or trauma.
• De-escalating potential resident conflicts.
• Maintain confidentiality of all agency and resident information.
• Monitor completion of resident chores and programmatic structure.
• Conduct a residential headcount/bed check per shift.
• Maintain food and supply inventory.
• Sign in/out residents and guests; periodic building walk-throughs.
• Inspect resident rooms for tidiness or contraband.
• Communicate with staff about residents’ adherence to rules.
• Conduct routine fire/safety inspections and drills.
• Answer phones on duty and respond to voicemails.
• Maintain incident logs and noteworthy items.

Assist with the day to day operations and monitoring both the clients, internal environment and surrounding grounds. The House Monitor reports to the Sr. Program Director and is a key member of the Medical Respite Multi-disciplinary treatment Team. The role of the House Monitors is to oversee the daily operations of the house and all the residents ensuring the programmatic structure is being followed. Overall, The House Monitor will support the staff.

Responsibilities

• Appropriately respond to any crisis, emergency or trauma which occurs
• De-escalating potential resident conflicts.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all agency and resident information.
• Monitor completion of resident chores and programmatic structure.
• Conduct a residential headcount/bed check a minimum of three times per shift.
• Maintain food and supply inventory.
• Sign in and out residents and guests, and periodic walk through of building to account for all building occupants
• Periodic inspection of resident rooms for tidiness or presence of contraband
• Communication with staff related to residents adherence to program rules and expectations.
• Routine inspections for purposes of fire and safety code compliances and other safety violations; running safety drills
• Responsibility for answering the phones while on duty, responding to any voice mail messages left on house phone during shift.
• Maintain log of all incidents and pertinent activities and noteworthy house resident items

Physical Requirements

• The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to transport oneself, consumers, and program supplies as necessary.
• The physical ability to travel to assigned locations, stand, stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, lift, grasp, climb, talk, see, hear and perform basic and light home maintenance activities, and operate office equipment.
• Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.
• The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified

• Understanding of Medical issue and substance abuse knowledge
• Preferred: 1-2 years working with diverse populations and lived experience
