City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a part-time instructor to lead adaptive and inclusive recreation activities. You will adapt activities to meet participants where they are, across arts, crafts, fitness, life skills, and special events.
The role supports AIR and Outreach programs, oversees the TREE afterschool initiative for Jr. High students, and participates in occasional events. Flexible schedule; wage is $15.00 per hour, up to 25 hours weekly.

Hours of Work: Up to 25 hours per week, year-round position with varied schedule that can include mornings, afternoon, evenings and weekends
Instructs, organizes, and implements recreation activities in support of the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation (AIR) and Outreach program area. Ability levels of the participants within AIR programs vary; thus, the program Instructor is required to adapt activities to meet individuals where they are at. Actively facilitates structured lessons that can cover a wide variety of content areas that include, but are not limited to: Arts and crafts, cooking and baking, fitness and wellness, life skills, and special events. Must be flexible to participant changes and needs and adapt and make adjustments to program plans on short notice. Additionally works with outreach program to promote diversity and inclusion within Iowa City. Provides oversight of the afterschool program TREE, that supports Jr. High School students. Participates in one-time social, or cultural events. Able to react independently in a program situation, keeping the programs on task and the participants and staff safe. Assists with department special events when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
Previous experience in instructing recreation programs or interacting with individuals with disabilities and individuals with diverse backgrounds preferred. Experience recreational activities or the willingness to learn is highly preferred. Please specify any specialized areas of expertise on application. Must pass criminal background check.
