Job summary

The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is seeking a part-time Hotline Support Specialist to support LGBTQ and HIV-affected survivors with trauma-informed, anti- oppressive safety and services.

This 16-hour-per-week role is hybrid, with in‑person training in Lower Manhattan and optional remote work. Duties include staffing the English/Spanish hotline, crisis intervention, intake screenings, and referrals.

Responsibilities

Job description

The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is excited to welcome two new part‑time members to our team. We are looking for dynamic candidate(s) to support the Manager of Hotline Programs, to ensure lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and HIV‑affected survivors of violence have access to affirming, inclusive, trauma informed, anti‑oppressive safety, support, and services.

AVP empowers LGBTQand HIV‑affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education and supports survivors through counseling and advocacy. We were one of the first LGBTQ anti‑violence organizations in the country and are a national leader in the anti‑violence movement.

Hours

The Part‑Time Hotline Support Specialist is a 16 hour a week role, with daytime hours. Weekly rotating shifts will be scheduled with the Client Services team within AVP daytime hours: Monday – Thursday 10am – 6pm, and Fridays 10am – 2pm.

Location

Hybrid. In‑person training and meetings may be required at AVP’s office in Lower Manhattan. The specialist will have opportunities to work in person as desired, and flexibility for remote work as needed.

The Hotline Specialist will hold a multi‑faceted role as part of the Client Services Department. They will:

• S taf f f AVP’s English/Spanish hotline;
  • Answer and respond to c ommunity reaching out to AVP’s English/Spanish hotline;
  • Return voicemails or messages left by callers, providing resources, referrals and intake screenings as needed;
• Complete need‑based screenings and relevant assessments with callers of AVP’s hotline, and connect callers t to appropriate servic es within AVP, or refer out to vetted community resources;

• Candidates fluent in Spanishin addition toEnglishare strongly encouraged to apply.

This position will work closely with AVP hotline volunteers. Our ideal Hotline Specialist will have experience working with LGBTQ and HIV‑affected people, communities, and survivors ofviolence, providingcrisis intervention and support, and has strong administrative and organizational skills. A commitment to ending violence within and against LGBTQ and HIV‑affected people and communities is a must.

• Be comfortable and confident in working in a multi‑disciplinary, direct service / crisis management setting;
• Have the capacity to set effective boundaries;
• Honor confidentiality;
• Be detail‑oriented, and ready to dive into trauma‑informed, anti‑violence work with queer, trans, and HIV‑affected communities.

Hourly rate: $32.00 per hour, 16 hours a week. This is a part‑tim e non‑exempt hourly position with out benefits.

Paid time off: Paid sick time available, 1 hour earned at every 30 hours worked. Time off is paid if shift lands on a holiday, summer recess or winter recess week.
