Job summary

The Vanderbilt in Newport, RI seeks a skilled Hotel Engineer to oversee all technical operations of the property, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and equipment repairs in a luxury setting.

You will troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, support safety and sustainability initiatives, respond to guest requests promptly, and coordinate with the engineering team to uphold the resort's high standards of service and comfort.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as technician/engineer in hotel or property management preferred.
• Experience with power tools use and safety.
• Ability to read and follow technical instructions for mechanical equipment and furniture.
• Ability to communicate in English with guests and staff.
• Valid driver's license and clean record.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical motors and devices.
• HVAC and refrigeration troubleshooting and repair.
• Plumbing troubleshooting and repairs.
• Minor carpentry tasks.
• Use power tools safely (pressure washers, compressors).
• Repair office and audiovisual equipment as needed.
• Respond to guest requests promptly and attentively.
• Respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain logs in the engineering logbook.
• Move objects for relocation/access.
• Maintain knowledge of resort fire, water, septic, and irrigation systems.
• Support Planet Auberge sustainability initiatives.
