Position Summary
The Hotel Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems to ensure a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-functioning environment for guests and employees. This position responds to maintenance requests, performs preventative maintenance, and assists with repairs throughout the property.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and hotel equipment.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel departments.
- Complete repairs and maintenance involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, drywall, appliances, doors, locks, and general building systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on hotel equipment and building systems.
- Inspect and maintain air-conditioning and heating systems and report issues requiring specialized service.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and determine when outside contractors are needed.
- Repair or replace fixtures, furniture, lighting, plumbing components, and other hotel equipment as needed.
- Assist with maintaining pools, pumps, water systems, and other property equipment, as applicable.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, maintenance requests, inspections, and repairs.
- Respond to emergencies and urgent maintenance situations in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and work areas.
- Follow all OSHA, safety, fire, and hotel policies and procedures.
- Use tools, equipment, and chemicals safely and properly.
- Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies and notify management when supplies or parts need to be ordered.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when specialized repairs are required.
- Assist other hotel departments with maintenance-related needs as requested.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.
Guest Service Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with guests.
- Communicate clearly with guests regarding maintenance issues and expected completion times.
- Protect guest belongings and hotel property while performing repairs.
- Respond to guest concerns promptly and elevate unresolved issues to management.
Qualifications
- Previous maintenance experience, preferably in a hotel, apartment, commercial building, or similar environment.
- General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic maintenance problems.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and supplies and perform physical maintenance tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, climbing ladders, and working in guest rooms, public areas, mechanical spaces, and outdoor areas. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, noise, cleaning chemicals, and other conditions associated with hotel maintenance.
