Job summary

Matson seeks a Hostler Driver to join as an on-call union casual employee in Alaska. Typical hours are 8 am–6 pm, Monday–Friday, with no minimum hours; duties vary with operations.

Responsibilities include street driving and hostler duties moving containers. A valid Class A CDL with Tanker, HazMat, and Air Brake endorsements, plus a DOT medical card and TWIC, are required. Join a team focused on safety, reliability, and teamwork in a dynamic port environment.

Qualifications

• Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker, Air Brake, and HazMat endorsements.
• Prefer one to two years of commercial driving experience.
• Must have a current DOT medical card.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
• Ability to work all shifts and overtime as needed.

• Street driving: Dray equipment to and from a customer’s location. Must have the ability to perform all duties related to commercial driving.
• Hostler Operation: Safely move containers to and from the yard and dock locations, in preparation for and during vessel operations.
• Perform additional duties as directed by management.
• Constantly follow safety rules/practices to ensure performance of duties in a safe and consistent manner.
• Comply with OSHA and DOT safe working rules and regulations.

About The Role

The Hostler Driver will support the operation as on-call, union casual employee. This position requires the individual to be available for work assignments on an on-call basis, Monday through Friday, typically from 8 am to 6 pm. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours, and the job duties will vary daily depending on operational needs.

• Please note that this position is on a call-in, as needed basis.
• Rate of pay is between $38.75 and $43.47 per hour.
• All candidates selected to interview must bring a current driving history record going back a minimum of 10 years.
• Must be able to pass a background, alcohol, and drug screen.
• Must join the union and stay in good standing with Teamsters Local 959.
