Job summary

Happy Hospitality in Chicago is seeking a Host to warmly welcome guests, manage seating and wait lists, and provide menus with questions answered. The role requires standing during busy shifts and a positive attitude to greet guests as they enter.

You should have a high school diploma or equivalent and a track record of delivering top-notch service in a fast-paced restaurant. Experience with OpenTable/POS is a plus, and eligibility to work in the United States is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to provide top notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.
• A positive attitude and ability work well under pressure with all restaurant staff.
• Does high-quality work while unsupervised.
• Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food when necessary.
• Willing to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification if needed.
• Able to handle money accurately and operate a point-of-sale system.
• Able to work in a busy restaurant environment.
• Restaurant experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests as they enter with energetic & positive attitude
• Create and maintain wait list if necessary
• Effective use of OpenTable
• Provide guests with menus and answering any initial questions
• Seat guests at tables or in designated waiting areas
• Assign guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers
• Respond to complaints and help resolve them or get a manager involved
• Answer phone calls, take reservations and answer any general inquiries guests may have
• A running knowledge of food and beverage menu
• Acknowledging guests as they leave
• Maintain company culture
• Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor
• Comply with health and food safety standards
• Restock floor and bathrooms as needed
• Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the host stand including counters, menus, computer, shelves and storage areas
