Job description

Job Title: Host

FLSA Status (US): Hourly Pay range: $12-$15 per hour plus tips

Direct Oversight: Restaurant Operations

Reports To: General Manager

Job Summary:

Our Host team members are the first representation of Paraiso brand. Our Host expectations are to showcase our friendly and approachable atmosphere through continuous smiles, cheerful, energetic and engaging disposition, and always exude positivity and professionalism. Host team members support the front of house team, including servers, food runners and management, with direct or indirect guests needs and ensuring an amazing dining experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Greet guests as they arrive, ensuring proper seating arrangements and reservations check-in or providing a proper wait-list time, if necessary. Engage with guests to ensure a great dining experience.
  2. Embrace the Paraiso culture and participate in collective proper company greeting.
  3. Provide guests with menus, answering any initial questions and assisting guests with any special accommodations.
  4. Communicate clearly and concisely in a positive and professional manner with guests and team members, both front and back of the house operations. Answer phone calls, take reservations and assign guests to proper tables while maintaining consistent server rotation.
  5. Ensure cleanliness of Host station, including front door or any area visible to guests upon arrival.
  6. Support front of house team operations, such as refilling beverages, organizing table arrangements, table maintenance, polishing plates or glasses, resetting tables or other necessary items as requested or needed.
  7. Respond to minor guest complaints, and alerting management of any major or critical guests or service concerns.
  8. Know restaurant information, such as hours of operations, menu, allergies, table numbers, payment options and any relevant information to the operations of the restaurant.
  9. Promote and execute Paraiso's core values of Teamwork, Hospitality, Authenticity, Creativity and Integrity.
  10. Complete projects and/or tasks as requested or required by manager(s) or supervisor(s).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  1. Restaurant experience is a plus.
  2. Outstanding and professional verbal and written skills; with strong ability to multi-task.
  3. Positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
  4. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  5. Willing to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification, if needed.
  6. Understand or experience in operating POS system or Host System (OpenTable or similar).
  7. Ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate team spirit and effectively present information in one-on-one setting and/or small group situations.
  8. Must be dependable and reliable. Self-motivated and self-initiated to ensure restaurant is clean and presentable to guests.
  9. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
  10. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  11. Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time. Able to safely lift and easily maneuver through restaurant with limited space.

Required Education:

  1. Be able to write and speak English.
  2. Must have appropriate city, state and federal certifications according to location of restaurant, including alcohol and food handling certificates.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a fun yet professional restaurant environment. This role routinely moves inside and outside of the kitchen and operate tools such trays, glassware, places and other restaurant equipment. Hosts will occasionally ascend/descend ladder to reach overhead items, if needed. Hosts will frequently communicate with staff, guests and other team members; must be able to exchange accurate and factual information in all cases. Host should be able to detect fires, spills and other safety-related issues and immediately notify management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by our team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. The team member is required to frequently stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Team member must be able to distinguish between sweet, savory and other food flavors. Team member will work indoor and outdoor environment, which might be hot, humid and wet. Be able to reach, bend, and frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds. Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
