Position Overview
The Host presents a positive first impression of the outlet’s friendliness, excellent service, and high standards. They are responsible for managing the seating charts for the outlet and greeting guests upon arrival before seating, and assist in maximizing revenue by ensuring that seating times are optimized and guests are strategically seated based on preference and outlet standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintain complete knowledge of departmental policies, service standards, and operating procedures.
- Be familiar with all hotel services, features, and local attractions to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment and use it only as intended.
- Maintain positive guest relations and resolve all guest complaints to ensure satisfaction.
- Maintain general knowledge of all menu items, liquor brands, wines, beers, and non‑alcoholic selections available in the outlet.
- Know table/seat/station numbers, proper set-ups, room capacity, hours of operation, menus, price range, and dress code of the outlet.
- Abide by state liquor regulations, especially those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons, and drivers.
- Complete opening and closing side duties.
- Greet guests and provide wait time estimates while monitoring the wait list to seat guests promptly.
- Seat guests, provide menus, and use reservation system information to personalize service and introduce the guest to their server.
- Enter and confirm guest information in the reservation system, noting preferences and dietary restrictions.
- Answer incoming calls and emails, providing service in accordance with hotel standards.
- Manage guest flow into dining and bar areas and maintain ambience per hotel standards.
- Assist outlet staff with food running, table bussing, or other duties during busy periods.
- Observe guests’ needs throughout the dining experience to ensure high quality service.
- Use chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
- Maintain a professional and personable appearance at all times.
- Achieve the hotel’s core values of ownership, innovation, craft, respect, and community.
- Perform all other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Good reading, writing, and oral proficiency in English.
- Minimum one year experience in a similar position with a full‑service hotel or restaurant.
- Previous experience with MICROS POS preferred.
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy while remaining calm and resolving problems with good judgment.
- Ability to work effectively with coworker as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, do repetitive motions, bend, climb, listen, hear, and maintain visual acuity.
- Capacity for writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, hearing, and visual acuity.
