At our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, our veterinarian role is the most immersive in the hospital. Our hospital veterinarians are dedicated to quality care — for the pets they treat and the people they work with. Essential Job Functions:

The duties and responsibilities listed below are essential for this position. The incumbent must be able to perform all these duties with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Provide excellent patient care through physical exams, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care tailored to the patient’s signalment, lifestyle, and environment.
  • Develop a comprehensive problem list for each patient, including differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and appropriate treatments based on test results, leading to confirmed or suspected diagnoses.
  • Document all observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses clearly and concisely in the medical records.
  • Perform routine and complex surgeries, including spays/neuters, abdominal explorations, and mass removals.
  • Conduct dental procedures, including examinations, radiograph evaluations, extractions, and oral surgeries.
  • Develop treatment plans for day-hospitalized patients, coordinate care with referral hospitals, and manage patient transitions as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in rounds at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Share knowledge to improve care and communication within the team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervision and Collaboration:

The Veterinarian will work under the supervision of the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director, maintaining professional standards and seeking feedback to enhance patient care. All veterinarians are expected to behave professionally and collegially.

Planning and Problem Solving:

Strong problem-solving skills are essential for rapid diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role does not have direct supervisory duties but involves leadership within the hospital team.

Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited school.
  • Active veterinary licensure in the state of employment or ability to obtain it by start date.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, or ability to obtain it.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
  • Comfort with anesthesia and routine surgeries like spays, neuters, and dentals.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Compassionate, professional, and able to handle emotional situations.
  • Good telephone and computer skills.
  • Team-oriented, eager to learn, and adaptable to change.

Work Environment:

Most duties are performed in the veterinary hospital, requiring physical activity such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Significant interaction with clients and pets occurs.
