Job summary

Connecticut Children’s is seeking a unit-based administrative support role on an inpatient unit. Under supervision, you will manage patient records, transcribe orders, and coordinate communications among multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and visitors.

You will support data management and unit operations while maintaining confidentiality and following policies. The role requires basic medical terminology knowledge, strong organizational skills, and proficient use of Windows and MS

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
• One to two years clerical experience required; health care setting experience and medication transcription preferred.

Responsibilities

• PATIENT RECORDS & ORDER TRANSCRIPTION - Create and maintain patient charts and computerized medical record information; transcribe and process physician orders; route and receive documentation for tests/procedures.
• COMMUNICATIONS - Facilitate accurate communications between multidisciplinary teams, patients/families, and visitors; provide reception and information; schedule tests, procedures, and therapies; coordinate flow of patient information.
• CLINICAL ENVIRONMENT - Contribute to safe and caring environment; know medical terminology used in unit’s clinical environment; follow policies and procedures.
• ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT - Perform administrative tasks for unit operations; type, revise and print documents; maintain lists and data records; order supplies; run errands.
• PATIENT SUPPORT – Assist with equipment maintenance and inventory; assist with admissions and discharges; transport medications, blood, equipment as directed by RN.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-related differences from neonate to adolescent; maintain confidentiality; show cultural sensitivity.
