Trinity Health Livonia is a full-service, 304-bed acute care hospital located in Livonia, MI. It provides comprehensive care, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, ICU, cancer, cardiology, geriatrics, and women's health. Through major expansions, St. Mary Mercy continues to offer the latest in quality health and medical services. It has received awards for excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, and efficiency.

SUMMARY:

Transport patients safely from Patient Care Areas to diagnostic/testing areas and to inpatient units for admissions, including deceased patients to the morgue.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transport stable, non-monitored patients to and from diagnostic/test areas and inpatient units.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate with RNs or healthcare providers prior to transport and upon patient return.
  • Assist patients with restroom needs as necessary.
  • Safely transfer patients using approved transfer devices.
  • Clean transport equipment after each use.
  • Manage equipment like stretchers, wheelchairs, oxygen, and other necessary items.
  • Provide directions to families and visitors.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and educational activities.
  • Provide culturally competent care considering age, development, and cultural needs.
  • Demonstrate competencies and maintain good rapport with colleagues.
  • Address conflicts constructively and maintain confidentiality.
  • Behave according to the Code of Conduct, Service Standards, and hospital values.
  • Ensure safety in job performance and report hazards immediately.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED recommended.
  • Prior healthcare experience not required.
  • Basic cardiac life support certification required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to organize work and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for communication with staff and patients.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to walk 12-15 miles per shift and stand for hours.
  • Ability to push wheelchairs or stretchers up to 700 lbs.
