Job summary

CommonSpirit Health seeks an experienced Outpatient Coder to code and abstract outpatient records for data retrieval, reimbursement and research, utilizing the 3M encoder and EMR.

Remote work is available for candidates in CO, KS, NM and other eligible states. Requires 3+ years of acute care coding and AHIMA or AAPC credentials, or certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years coding experience in an acute care setting.
• Competency in outpatient coding guidelines and APC assignment.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS and coding modifiers.
• Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (3M).
• AHIMA credentials (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P) or AAPC credentials (COC/CIC/CPC-H/CPC) required or must be certified within one year of hire.
• Experience in remote work environments preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and email troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Enter diagnostic and procedure codes into the designated coding and abstracting system (3M encoder).
• Meet quality and productivity coding standards and navigate the EMR.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED Required
• Associates Degree Preferred
• A minimum of 3 years coding experience in an acute care setting
• Must demonstrate competency of outpatient coding guidelines and APC assignment
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and emails and troubleshooting computer problems
• Demonstrate intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS and Coding Modifiers
• Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (. 3M)
• Experience successfully working in a remote environment, preferred
• Current AHIMA credentials (. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credential (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC), required or must be certified within one year of hire.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary work – prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10 lbs. force occasionally.
