Job summary

Omega Healthcare is seeking a remote Medical Coder to abstract, code, and sequence clinical information across inpatient, outpatient, ED and pro-fee records. You will assign diagnoses and procedures with correct sequencing, applying DRG/APC knowledge and coding standards to ensure accurate billing.

You will input codes into multiple systems, maintain productivity, and sustain a 95% quality rating while complying with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in abstracting, coding and sequencing clinical data.
  • Follows coding guidelines to review health records.
  • Knowledge of AHIMA/AMA/AHA/CMS coding standards.

Responsibilities

  • Abstract, code, sequence and interpret clinical information from inpatient, outpatient, ED, pro-fee and clinical records.
  • Assign principal/secondary diagnoses and principal/secondary procedures with correct sequencing.
  • Utilize DRG/APC knowledge to assign appropriate codes.
  • Enter codes into client systems and encoders; adhere to HIPAA and compliance rules.
  • Track productivity in specified systems and maintain client-defined productivity levels.
  • Maintain a 95% quality rating across coding assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for abstracting, coding, sequencing, and interpreting clinical information from inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, pro-fee, and clinical medical records.
  • Responsible for assigning correct principal diagnoses, secondary diagnoses, and principal procedure and secondary procedure codes with attention to accurate sequencing.
  • Utilizes technical coding principals and DRG/APC reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate codes.
  • Abstracts and codes pertinent medical data into multiple software programs and/or encoders. Follows official coding guidelines to review and analyze health records.
  • Maintains compliance with external regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as state and federal regulations.
  • Extract pertinent data from the patient’s health record and determine appropriate coding for reports and billing documents.
  • Identifies codes for reporting medical services and procedures performed by physicians. Enters codes into various computer systems dependent upon the various clients.
  • Track and document productivity in specified systems and maintain productivity levels as defined by the client.
  • Maintain a 95% quality rating.
  • Perform duties in compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to HIPAA and compliance.

  • Knowledge of JCAHO, coding compliance and HIPAA HITECH standards affecting medical records and the impact on reimbursement and accreditation.

This job operates in a remote home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.
