Job Details

Location: MON - Monroe, LA 71201. Part Time Day Shift. No experience required; on the job training provided.

Position Overview

LifeShare is seeking a dependable Blood Product Distribution Technician to join our hospital services team at the Monroe donor center. The Technician will provide excellent customer service and ensure a safe blood supply is available at healthcare centers in our community when needed for traumas, therapies, and treatments. Starting pay is $14.71 per hour.

• Current valid driver’s license, 3 years driving history, satisfactory driving record

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Frequent operation of a vehicle, sometimes for long periods
• Lift equipment up to 40 lbs unassisted
• Work irregular hours, often exceeding 8 hours per day, including on‑call rotation, weekends and holidays
• Work with needles, scissors, blood bags, human blood and blood processing equipment in a fast‑paced environment
• Potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products

Position Summary

Monitors blood product inventory levels; retrieves blood products from collection sites; receives and fulfills customer orders; packages and delivers products to healthcare facilities and to other centers as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive company vehicle to pick up donor blood from blood collection sites and transport blood to appropriate locations
• Prepare all necessary paperwork; separate unsuitable units; package blood products and blood sample tubes for transport to processing facility
• Prepare apheresis product in computer
• Monitor product inventory levels and notify supervisor when levels fall below established minimums; identify and remove outdated products
• Answer telephone to receive product orders from hospital customers or other centers; document orders, select units, charge and fill orders
• Package for transport and/or shipment of blood, blood components and/or derivatives; convert and relabel product
• Receive returns of products and document appropriately in computer system
• Follow all company policies and procedures, regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, OSHA, AABB) and comply with good manufacturing practices (cGMP)
• Participate in meetings such as in‑service training, continuing education programs, staff meetings, and safety meetings
• Maintain, organize, clean and decontaminate functional work area, equipment and vehicles; report malfunctioning equipment or vehicles promptly
• Make routine decisions pertaining to work duties as permitted under policies and procedures; refer to supervisor any issues that could potentially harm a donor or employee, cause adverse opinions of the Center or Company, or interfere with operations
• Meet and exceed customer expectations and adhere to established quality practices while seeking to continually improve work performance
• Model LifeShare’s mission and values, integrating them into daily decisions, behaviors and actions
• Promote cooperation and communication within a team to achieve company and departmental goals and deliverables
• Complete other assignments and duties as may be assigned

Additional Duties and Qualifications (LevelII &III)

Upper levels include all LevelI responsibilities plus additional duties such as irradiating product (where applicable), monitoring equipment and responding to alarms, performing preventative maintenance, making quality‑control decisions, providing guidance to junior technicians, performing record‑control responsibilities, shipping dangerous goods, manual labeling, processing test‑positive autologous units, receiving blood derivatives, monitoring storage equipment for temperature, and audit reports. LevelII requires 6 months of on‑the‑job experience; LevelIII requires 12 months of on‑the‑job experience. Successful completion of training on use of irradiator may be required.
