Job summary

Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, NY is seeking a Safety & Security Officer Trainee for Rochester General Hospital. The role supports patrols, access control, and incident response in a 24-hour operation with on-the-job training and supervision.

The trainee will complete required security training, shadow experienced officers, and learn hospital policies. There is a probationary period of 6 months with potential progression to a full Security Officer role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• NYS Security Guard License required.
• Valid NYS Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Training & Development: Complete required security training, certifications, and shadowing to learn hospital policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Security Operations (Under Supervision): Assist with patrols, access control, CCTV monitoring, incident response, and emergency drills while gaining hands-on experience.
• Safety & Risk Awareness: Identify and report hazards, participate in fire safety checks, and support patient and visitor safety initiatives.
• Reporting & Documentation: Prepare clear, accurate incident and activity reports while learning investigatory and documentation practices.
• Professional Conduct & Teamwork: Uphold hospital values, demonstrate integrity, and work collaboratively under guidance to develop into a fully independent Security Officer.

Education
