Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Security Officer I to protect patients, staff, and property. You will patrol, respond to incidents, and document events while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Required credentials include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, IAHSS Basic certification, and BLS within 9 months. Training in Defensive Tactics is provided within six months. This is a full-time on-site role in Illinois.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or GED.
• Licensure: valid driver’s license.
• Certificate: IAHSS Basic within 90 days of hire; maintain ongoing certification.
• BLS certification required within 9 months of hire; Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics training within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Investigates/quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain patient, visitor, and employee security.
• Completes descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
• Notifies police and fire as needed and prepares reports for supervisors.
• Performs regular perimeter and internal patrols to protect patients and property.
• Conducts investigations into safety issues and hazardous conditions.
• Monitors access control, alarms, and video systems.
• Controls traffic to ensure emergency access and patient safety.
• Delivers deceased bodies to the morgue and handles releases as required.
• Responds to emergency codes per guidelines.
• Enforces department policies and maintains a professional service image.
