Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Safety and Security department seeks a Hospital Security Officer to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the university hospitals. Responsibilities include security checks, incident investigations, escorting, and responding to emergencies.

The role requires experience in security, strong communication skills, and ability to work 2nd and 3rd shifts with the potential for overtime.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Two years of customer service experience.
• Possession of a driver’s license and UI Fleet Safety Standards compliance.
• Ability to obtain IA HSS certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor assignments.
• Conduct incident investigations and document follow-up.
• Respond to emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security alarms.
• Maintain security surveillance of the institution, including psychiatric units.
