Job summary

Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital in Sebastian, FL, seeks a dedicated security officer to protect patients, visitors, and staff. The role includes patrols, escorts, access control, incident response, and cooperation with law enforcement.

Responsibilities cover safety, reporting, and compliance within a complex healthcare setting. Relevant Florida licenses and certifications are required or pursued after hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing purposes.
• Training in de-escalation, workplace violence prevention, customer service, and healthcare security practices preferred.
• No prior security experience required.
• Experience in healthcare, military, public safety, law enforcement support, corrections, or security-related environments preferred.
• Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable under the organization’s insurance carrier requirements and standards.
• Must obtain State of Florida security officer licenses / CPI / IAHSS certifications within defined timelines.

Responsibilities

• Provides escorts for visitors, employees, students, and authorized people upon request.
• Patrols all areas of the hospital, 24 hours a day, in all weather conditions.
• Provides key assists and access support for authorized personnel, including in sensitive areas.
• Detects suspicious activity and responds appropriately to safety and security concerns.
• Reports criminal activity, suspicious behavior, and policy violations to leadership and law enforcement as appropriate.
• Investigates accident scenes, preserves evidence, interviews witnesses, and prepares reports.
• Assists with enforcement of applicable statutes and supports medical staff with restraints as required by physicians.
• Works with law enforcement and correctional officers regarding patient/prisoner intake and supervision.
• Responds to threats, emergencies, and various incidents; documents hazards and events.
• May testify in court or other legal proceedings related to incidents.
