Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center seeks a Security Officer I to help ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You will patrol the facility, respond to calls, monitor access, and report safety concerns. This is a 24/7 environment and flexibility with shifts is required.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and SPO commission status; CPR certification within 90 days; and the ability to de-escalate and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 1–2 years SPO commissioned and 1 year of MedStar satisfactory performance required.
• DL number and state license required; CPR certification within 90 days; certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Supervise shift, monitor communications, correct performance as needed.
• Mentor security staff and conduct in-service training.
• Respond to emergencies and security code events.
• Record incident reports and investigations; coordinate with authorities.
• Patrol hospital campus and control access to buildings.
