Job summary

MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is seeking a routine manual housekeeping worker to clean areas across the facility. The role involves preparing cleaning solutions, transporting carts, and maintaining sanitary patient environments.

Responsibilities include cleaning rooms, walls, floors and equipment with germicidal solutions, operating cleaning machinery, and ensuring safety and cleanliness in accordance with hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English to perform essential duties.
• Experience in healthcare environment preferred (1–2 years).
• Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy and strong customer service.
• Ability to follow policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Selects cleaning materials and prepares solutions according to procedure.
• Loads service carts and transports to assigned area.
• Cleans by washing furniture, tile, fixtures and equipment with germicidal solutions.
• Cleans walls, doors, frames, ceilings and windows.
• Sweeps and mops floors; vacuums carpets and arranges furniture after cleaning.
• Requests cleaning supplies and equipment when needed.
• Operates cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical.
• Notifies supervisor of equipment needing repair and reports safety hazards.
• Returns unused supplies and collects waste while maintaining orderly areas.
• May collect soiled linens and distribute clean linen.
• Handles bio-hazardous waste following EPA/OSHA/DOT procedures.
• Cleans patient rooms after discharge and operates in operating rooms per approved procedures.
